What Flag Day celebrates
The National Media Authority describes Flag Day as a national occasion held every year on 3 November, when citizens and residents raise the UAE flag on government and private buildings, public facilities and institutions as an expression of loyalty, national pride and belonging. It is a day of flag raising rather than a public holiday.
What Eid Al Etihad celebrates
Eid Al Etihad, the UAE National Day, marks the historic unification of the seven emirates into one nation on 2 December 1971. Official ceremonies, cultural performances and heritage displays take place across the country. The government portal lists National Day as a public holiday on 2 and 3 December.
The UAE Government visual identity guidelines note that the UAE flag was officially raised for the first time on 2 December 1971, the day the union was declared.
